Sirsa, August 25
The Shaheed-e-Azam Student Association, led by vice-president Vishwadeep, has submitted a memorandum to Rajesh Bansal, Registrar of Chaudhary Devi Lal University. The students are protesting new rules which they believe are infringing on the right to education.
They have stated that they object to a policy that bars individuals over the age of 32 from enrolling in courses at the university. The students argue that education is a fundamental right for people of all ages. They are also criticising a rule that prevents students from enrolling in a second master’s degree programme, which they claim is not enforced in other Indian universities.
According to the university’s prospectus, the rule states: “Students who have completed one regular postgraduate examination from this university shall not be allowed to seek admission to another postgraduate programme as a regular student after 32 years of age (37 years with relaxation). However, they can seek admission in professional programmes such as MBA, LLB, LLM or PhD.”
