The shortage of DAP fertiliser has forced farmers, especially elderly ones, to rope in their college-going children to line up at the sale counters in Narnaul town here to buy the fertiliser.

Students are skipping their online classes to help their parents. Women, too, can be seen struggling to get hold of the fertiliser.

“My father cannot stand in the queue for long owing to his age, hence, I have come here to buy the fertiliser, but no system has been put in place to distribute the fertiliser, leading to total chaos. Not only me, but several other students are skipping their classes go stand in queues to buy the fertiliser but are returning empty handed,” said Shipra, an MSc Student.

Naveen Kumar, another student, said elderly farmers had no option except to rope in their family members to get the DAP fertiliser for mustard and wheat crops. “I came to the sale counter early in the morning but have not yet been able to get the fertiliser. It is affecting my studies badly. The government must increase the number of sale counters and supply of the fertiliser without further delay to solve the issue,” he added.

An official said the DAP fertiliser was being sold by the HAFED, cooperative societies and private dealers in the district.

“Excessive use of the DAP fertiliser has caused its shortage, especially in Narnaul and Nangal Choudhry region of the district, while farmers in Ateli and Kanina blocks have been able to get their hands on the fertiliser easily. Aadhaar Card is mandatory for getting the fertiliser and sip system is adopted only where the number of farmers is high,” he added.

He claimed that the issue would be resolved soon as the district would be getting an adequate supply in the coming days.
