Sushil Gupta is AAP candidate from Kurukshetra LS seat

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday announced that it would field its Haryana state president and former Rajya Sabha member Sushil Gupta from the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency.

Recently, the party had bagged the Kurukshetra seat under the seat-sharing agreement with the Congress in Haryana, and the leaders of both parties believe that the alliance candidate will win the Lok Sabha seat.

The Tribune had in these columns on February 26 reported that the name of Sushil Gupta was among those doing the rounds for the party ticket. AAP’s state spokesman and convener of the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency Sumit Hindustani said, “The party has introduced an educated, down to earth and hardworking candidate from Kurukshetra seat. All party workers are happy with the announcement of the name of Sushil Gupta and even the Congress leaders have congratulated the party for selecting him as the candidate. Since he keeps a personal contact with the party workers, it will boost their morale and help the party in further strengthening its base.”

“The party has opened its new district office in Kurukshetra and soon we will start holding meetings with the Congress leaders and party workers in view of the elections. The leaders will also start visiting all nine Assembly segments too under the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha,” he added.

Sushil Gupta, born in Shamlo Kalan of Jind district, had been associated with the Congress before joining AAP. As per AAP, Gupta had contested the Delhi Assembly poll of 2013 from Moti Nagar on the Congress ticket, which he lost. He has been associated with various social organisations .

Senior Congress leader Ashok Arora said, “We welcome Sushil Gupta as the candidate for Kurukshetra and all Congress leaders and party workers will extend full support to him in the election. We will ensure that the alliance candidate wins the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat with a big margin.”
