Swachhata Pakhwada concludes at ICAR-NDRI

The ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) organised a series of cleanliness drives from December 16 to 31. It concluded on Tuesday. The programme began with a pledge of cleanliness by all scientists, technical, administration and staff members. Dr Dheer Singh, Director, ICAR-NDRI, on the occasion, said this Pakhwada was organised to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness and environmental protection and to make a cleaner and greener India. Mass awareness activities on the “Swachhata” theme were conducted.

Students were exposed on how to maintain cleanliness at individual level at home, society and school and also in converting waste to wealth and safe disposal of all kinds of waste.

The staff members of the institute cleaned all premises and reviewed and weeded out old records and non-functional equipment. Special plantation drives were initiated and campaigns on discarding the use of single-use plastics and awareness on recycling of waste water, water harvesting for agriculture/ horticulture application/ kitchen gardens in residential colonies was held. Cleanliness and sanitation drives in the villages adopted under the “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” programme and/or other schemes by ICAR institutes/ KVKs involving village communities were also carried out.

Nukkad natak on swachhata pakhwada was performed by involving local celebrities to endorse and participate in the swachhata activities encouraging community involvement. The scientists and students also celebrated the Kisan Diwas in Dancher village by inviting farmers in the village and conducting interactive workshops focusing on practical solutions and best practices for maintaining cleanliness in agricultural settings.

Swachhata thematic drawing competitions for schoolchildren were organised in Brahmanand Senior Secondary School, Nissing. Certificates were also distributed to top participants. A signature campaign on cleanliness was also organised involving retired officials, farmers and farm women. The students of NDRI, including NCC cadets organised a swachhata run and swachhata rallies.
