Tabletop speed breakers to be constructed at accident prone sites
Aimed at reducing accidents at the accident-prone sites, the district administration has decided to construct tabletop speed breakers at 12 locations in Kurukshetra city.
A budget of Rs 24 lakh will be spent on the project.
As per the information, the speed breakers will be constructed on the stretch from Gita Dwar, Pipli to Gurukul and near Circuit House in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, said, “People lose their lives in road accidents and saving precious lives is very important, so to reduce accidents in Kurukshetra, accident- prone sites have been identified. In the first phase, speed breakers will be constructed at 12 locations at a cost of Rs 24 lakhs. The speed breakers will be constructed near the New Bus Stand, Gurukul, Circuit House, Police Lines, Kurukshetra University third-gate and other important locations in the city where accidents take place.”
Recently, expressing concerns over the accidents and lackadaisical attitude adopted by the PWD (B&R) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials, the DC had pulled up the officials and directed them to implement the decisions taken during the road safety meetings.
In the road safety meeting, a proposal regarding construction of new bus queue shelters was passed. As per the proposal the Roadways Department will construct 14 new bus queue shelters in the district. As per the report submitted by GM Roadways the new bus queue shelters will be constructed at Pindarsi village, Ladwa and other locations in the district at a cost of Rs 37 lakh.
“Directions have been issued to complete the work related to the construction of speed breakers by March 15 and then the other locations in the city will be covered in the second phase. All Subdivisional Magistrates (SDMs), have also been directed to get the encroachments by shopkeepers along the roads, cleared and inspect their respective areas regularly”, Deputy Commissioner said.
The DC further said the directions were issued to get the CCTV cameras, installed at various locations, repaired at the earliest and start issuing online challans to the traffic rule violators. Strict action would be taken against the violators to reduce accidents and ensure strict compliance of the traffic rules.
