Take steps to stop untreated waste being discharged into Yamuna: Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal

Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal directed the pollution control board officers to take immediate steps to stop untreated industrial and domestic effluent being discharged into Yamuna. They have been directed to prepare a detailed report to observe the nature of the effluents at various industrial entities in order to treat it.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting regarding pollution in Yamuna catchment here today.
Action plan prepared
- While reviewing the status of village STPs in Yamuna catchment, it was apprised that an action plan was prepared for the treatment/diversion of 75 MLD sewage generated from rural areas at 276 villages.
- It was informed that work in 118 villages has been completed and work in 130 villages are underway.
For this purpose, a joint committee comprising officers of the Pollution Control Board, HSIIDC, ULB and Public Health Engineering Department will be constituted.
Kaushal said officers should ensure the sewage treatment plants (STPs), common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) and effluent treatment plant (ETP) must be upgraded as per the industrial discharge. He also directed them to prepare a road map to tackle the issues related to river-based pollution.
Before permitting any setup, the nature of discharge should be mentioned in the project report so that the appropriate treatment plant can be installed.
