Taxi driver arrested for running over street dog
The Gurugram police have arrested a taxi driver in connection with an incident where a stray dog was crushed to death by his car while it was sleeping on the street in the Rajendra Park area. The police have also seized the car and are questioning the accused taxi driver.
The incident, which was captured on CCTV, went viral after a local woman lodged a complaint. An FIR was subsequently registered against the taxi driver at the Rajendra Park police station. Although the street children had buried the dog after the incident, a post-mortem will now be conducted at a veterinary hospital.
According to the complaint filed by social worker Suman Mishra, she received a call around 11 pm on Saturday from a youth named Neetu. He reported that a stray dog was sleeping on street 17 in Surat Nagar when a taxi driver named Nadeem ran over the dog with his car. Mishra stated, “It is clearly visible in the CCTV footage that after running the car over the dog, the driver reversed the car and dragged the dog again. Some boys reached there who buried the dead dog, but now I filed a complaint.”
Following this complaint, an FIR was filed against the taxi driver under relevant sections of the BNS at Rajendra Park Police Station on Sunday. The police arrested the accused taxi driver, Sohil Ali, a native of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday.
