Teachers allege irregularities in recruitment at universities

Rohtak, July 31
Various teachers’ organisations of state universities and colleges held a meeting on the campus of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak today.
Alleging large-scale irregularities in the recent recruitment of employees at Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, and Indira Gandhi University, Mirpur (Rewari), the organisations demanded a high-level inquiry into these. The teachers also demanded the restoration of the academic autonomy of the state universities.
The state government should ensure 100 per cent grant for pensions and salaries of the employees serving in the universities, the teachers demanded, adding that the posts under the self-financing scheme at the state universities should be converted to budgetary posts.
It was also demanded that the teachers who had applied for posts before 2006 should also be given the benefit of the old pension scheme.
They sought prompt clearance of the works pending at the Directorate of Higher Education, fixing of deadlines for all branches to avoid further delays. “The promotions under Career Advancement Scheme for college and university teachers should be made promptly and regularly twice a year on the basis of eligibility and applications for these should be invited online,” they said.
The meeting was chaired by Haryana Federation of University and College Teachers Association (HFUCTO) president Vikas Siwach and AIFUCTO vice-president Narendra Chahar and attended by representatives of Haryana Government College Teachers Association, Haryana College Teachers Association, teachers’ associations of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak; Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar; JC Bose University; Faridabad; Gurugram University, Gurugram; State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak; DCRUST, Murthal; Indira Gandhi University, Mirpur (Rewari); and Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind.
A delegation also met Education Minister Seema Trikha and requested her that their meeting with the Additional Chief Secretary and Director-General (Higher Education) be held soon under her chairmanship on the aforesaid points, which was accepted by the minister.
