The state’s new paperless registry system was launched in Sirsa district on Monday, but not a single registry could be completed on its opening day owing to technical snags in the online portal.

Officials said it might take about a week for the system to become fully operational. While the digital platform is intended to make the process more convenient for citizens, online document verification remains a major challenge. Authorities have stressed that strict measures will be adopted to prevent any fraud or misuse.

The Naib Tehsildar inspected the e-Disha centre on Monday and reviewed the situation, issuing necessary instructions to staff. The inspection comes amid ongoing police investigations into registry cases involving fake documents, which have already resulted in four arrests. Officials emphasised that verifying documents in the new system would require careful scrutiny and responsibility.

The e-Disha centre and tehsil complex saw unusually low footfall on Monday, with all eight counters nearly empty. Earlier, these offices witnessed long queues due to registry work, but residents are now waiting for clarity on the new process. Officials indicated that a “file revert” feature might be added to the portal, similar to the NDC system, allowing applicants to correct or re-upload documents from home if any mistakes or omissions are detected.

Authorities flagged several initial challenges, including verifying edited or tampered documents, managing incomplete submissions, portal glitches during scanning and the time-consuming nature of online checks, with each document taking up to 20 minutes to verify.

Tehsildar Subhash Chandra said that although the portal was not yet fully functional, staff and infrastructure were in place. “Once the system runs smoothly, the process will become clearer. We are paying special attention to document verification to ensure transparency and accuracy,” he added.
