According to the complaint lodged by Mani Ram with the Sanoli police, he received a call from his nephew in the afternoon informing him that his aunt (tai) had been stabbed to death. “When I reached home, I found my wife lying in a pool of blood,” he said.

Soon after receiving information, ASP Harshit Goel, Inspector Ved Pal (SHO, Sanoli) and a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory led by Dr Neelam Arya reached the spot, collected samples and closely inspected the scene.

Calling it a blind murder case, SP Bhupender Singh said the police team solved it in record time. “The main accused turned out to be the nephew of the deceased — the same boy who had informed the complainant about the incident,” he said.

The SP said police grew suspicious after noticing the boy’s changing statements. “CIA-1 incharge SI Sandeep detained the teenager and questioned him in the presence of his parents. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the murder,” the SP added.

The boy revealed that his mother and Sukhdei had an argument about 20–25 days ago and he had developed enmity towards his aunt since then. “He told his mother that he would kill her,” the SP said.

On Saturday, the accused entered Sukhdei’s house by scaling the wall and hid inside a room. When she entered, he attacked her from behind with a sharp-edged knife, stabbing her repeatedly in the back and chest. She died on the spot.

To mislead the family, he snatched her earrings and gold chain, hiding them to make it appear like a robbery. He then raised an alarm, pretending that an unknown assailant had attacked his aunt and even inflicted a minor knife injury on himself to support the story.

On Sunday, police also arrested Krishna, the mother of the teenager, from the village. “We have recovered the deceased’s jewellery and the knife used in the crime,” SP Singh said.

The woman was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody, while the teenager was produced before the juvenile court, which sent him to the juvenile home at Madhuban, the SP added.
