Following the BJP’s significant loss in the Lok Sabha elections and in anticipation of a good performance in the upcoming Assembly elections in Sirsa, the state government has opened its treasury for long-pending development projects. Since the lifting of the code of conduct, tenders worth approximately Rs 53 crore have been floated for various development works in the city. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has instructed officials to ensure that no development work is stalled due to lack of funds.
Surender Singh, the District Municipal Commissioner, explained that the code of conduct was imposed on March 16, in light of the Lok Sabha elections, when the tenders of new development projects were halted. However, since the code was lifted on June 6, the pace of development has picked up pace. As of now, the tenders for 40 development projects, amounting to around Rs 53.31 crore, have already been floated and many projects are set to start soon.
Several development projects are currently in progress in Sirsa. These include the construction of IPB streets in various wards, such as Ward No. 2 and Ward No. 9. Additionally, major works are going on in Ward No. 11. Other significant projects include street constructions in newly authorised colonies (under construction sector) UC-S-15 , UC-S-9, and others. Key projects include the construction of streets in the newly authorised colonies such as UC-S-28, UC-S-31, UC-S-38, UC-S-30, UC-S-52, and UC-S-18. Other notable works involve the installation of tricolor LED strips on Barnala and HUDA roads, the construction of citizen facilitation centres and the installation of multi-coloured lights in key areas.
The Municipal Corporation of Sirsa is making significant strides with the ongoing and upcoming development projects. The current initiatives include the development of Nandi Gaushalla and hiring of machinery for water removal, amounting to Rs 99.81 lakh. Several infrastructural projects, such as IPB street constructions in the newly authorised colonies, are underway, with tenders and technical evaluations in progress for areas such as UC-S-01, UC-S-04, and others. Additionally, a project for rainwater disposal announced by the CM is in the tendering process.
