Tension grips Rohtak village after man-son shot dead
Crime committed due to ‘old enmity’; I 5 booked, hunt on to nab assailants
Tension gripped Baliyana village under the IMT police station on Friday, when a man (58) and his son (22) were shot dead by unidentified armed assailants in broad daylight.
The deceased have been identified as Dharambir and his son Deepak. Old enmity is believed to be the reason behind the double murder. “Deepak’s brother is at present lodged in a jail in connection with a murder case. Today’s killings appear to be linked to that case,” an official said. Rohtak SP Surender Singh Bhoria said two accused had been arrested by the Sonepat CIA police following an encounter in the Kharkhoda area of Sonepat district. “Both accused are residents of Baliyana village, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects,” Bhoria added.
The police have launched an investigation after booking five persons, some of them from the same village, on charges of murder and the Arms Act. Police personnel have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order, as a considerable number of people gathered outside the victims’ house.
According to the villagers, Deepak was employed at a private company in Industrial Modern Township (IMT), and Dharambir also worked as a labourer there.
“The crime was perpetrated in the afternoon when Deepak was sitting on a sofa at the house of a village watchman. A group of five assailants arrived and inquired about his father. Without warning, they opened fire on him from a close range, killing Deepak on the spot. Later, they went to Deepak’s house and shot dead his father Dharambir. They then fled the spot in a car and a scooter. Someone nearby informed the IMT police station about the incident,” said the police sources.
The Station House Officer of IMT police station along with other cops rushed to the spot and found Dharambir and Deepak dead in different houses. A team of forensic experts was called to the scene to collect blood samples and other evidence. The bodies were later taken to the PGIMS for post-mortem examinations.
“We received information about the crime at around 3 pm. The crime perpetrated following an old enmity. Preliminary investigation suggests that two rounds were fired at Deepak and five at his father. The CIA team has launched a hunt to nab the accused, while a case has been registered against five persons in this connection,” said DSP Rakesh Kumar.
