Tenure of women panel chief extended

The Haryana Governor has extended the tenure of Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW), beyond January 18, 2025, until further order on existing terms and conditions of service.

Bhatia hails from Faridabad.

In the case of sexual harassment by a Jind school principal in 2023, her persistence led to a probe, FIR, and then the arrest of the accused, Kartar Singh (since sacked). More than 100 girls had come forward with their complaint against the principal.

Also, the principal of a Kaithal government school was arrested in 2023 after she took up the case with the police.

Presently, the commission is probing sexual harassment allegations against a former SP of Jind.
