In a major relief to hundreds of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) working under the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN), the state’s Education Department has granted them a one-year extension, valid till March 31, 2026. These teachers, recently relieved from duty, have been allowed to rejoin the same schools they were working in earlier this month.

The Director General of Elementary Education issued instructions to all District Elementary Education Officers (DEEOs) on Monday. “These teachers would rejoin in the same schools, from where they have been relieved in the starting of this month,” the directive stated.

While the department is in the process of adjusting surplus staff to schools facing shortages, it acknowledged that the exercise would take time. Until then, the relieved TGTs will return to their original postings. DEEOs have been told to complete all formalities promptly.

Art Education Assistants and Physical Assistants, whose tenures also ended on March 31, 2025, have been granted similar extensions. However, Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), also declared surplus and relieved in early April, have not been granted the same benefit.

“We have received directions from the DG for the extension of one year to relieved TGTs and they would join the same school,” confirmed Rohtash Verma, DEEO, Karnal.

The mass relief of TGTs and PGTs triggered protests across the state. On April 11, scores of them staged demonstrations under the Democratic School Teachers Association banner, highlighting unfilled vacancies and delays in promotions.

One relieved TGT welcomed the move and urged the government to extend similar support to PGTs. “We should be regularised as we were selected after clearing HTET and fulfilling all norms,” he said.
