Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday said the municipal council, Thanesar, will identify a new site for garbage dumping before the existing dumping point on the western bank of Brahma Sarovar can be closed.

Responding to a question in the Vidhan Sabha on the last day of the monsoon session, the CM said, “A transfer station has already been set up on the western bank of Brahma Sarovar on a temporary basis, from where the municipal solid waste of Thanesar is being taken to the Karnal processing site every day. This transfer station will be eliminated as soon as Municipal Council, Thanesar, finalises a suitable place for waste management, for which an advertisement has already been issued.”

He added that the earlier site had to be dropped following protests from villagers and even sought the help of the local MLA in identifying an alternative site.

Land consolidation issue to be resolved soon

On another question, Saini said the state government was taking concrete steps to simplify the land consolidation process across villages situated along the Yamuna, from Yamunanagar to Palwal.

“The problem of land consolidation along the Yamuna is not confined to a single district. It stretches from Yamunanagar to Palwal, affecting many villages, including those in Panipat. Effective steps are underway, and the issue will be settled at the earliest,” he assured the House.

STF arrests 1,830 criminals since 2017

Replying on behalf of the CM to a question on law and order, Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar informed that a Special Task Force (STF) was set up in 2017 to curb organised crime.

“So far, the STF has arrested 1,830 criminals, and at present, nine field units are actively functioning across the state,” Panwar said, adding that between 2018 and 2025, there has been a steady decline in major crimes such as murder, attempt to murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, extortion, theft, molestation and drug trafficking.

Desilting rivers to reduce floods

Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry informed the House that unlike drains, there is no fixed plan for desilting rivers before every monsoon.

“Due to frequent heavy rainfall and deposition of silt in recent years, desilting of rivers was started as a one-time measure in 2025 with the aim of increasing their carrying capacity and reducing flood risks,” she said.
