Local shopkeepers today disrupted traffic on the circular road outside Yadav Dharamshala in Jhajjar city for around an hour to protest the theft in three adjoining shops on Monday night. They lifted the blockade after the police authorities assured them that the thieves would be apprehended soon.
The shop owners came to know about the theft in the morning when they reached the shops. In a fit of anger, they, along with other shopkeepers, blocked the road outside their shops. The blockade caused inconvenience to commuters, who had to use alternative routes to reach their destination.
The police, on getting information, rushed to the spot and managed to persuade the protesters to clear the road.
“The police claim to carry out patrolling at night regularly to discourage anti-social elements but theft in three shops on one night is sufficient enough to understand what sort of security arrangement has been made in the city. The shopkeepers have suffered huge losses,” said one of the protesters.
Rakesh Arora, a trade leader, said acute resentment prevailed among shopkeepers due to the theft incident. “We will meet the senior police officers and will also not hesitate to shut the market if the thieves are not arrested soon. All traders and shopkeepers are united,” he added.
Logesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jhajjar, told ‘The Tribune’ that no watchman had been deputed by traders in the area. “We are analysing the footage of the CCTV cameras installed nearby. The help of Cyber Cell is also being taken to get leads,” he said, claiming that the thieves would be arrested soon.
