The gram panchayat of Ghogharian village in Jind district has taken upon itself the responsibility of curbing the use of unfair means in examinations, being conducted by the Board of School Education Haryana, at the school in their area.

The panchayat members, headed by the Sarpanch, stand guard outside the examination centre at the village's government school for three hours every day to keep miscreants at bay. This initiative has received praise from various quarters.

Villagers informed that the school was an examination centre about 30 years ago but that was stopped in 1995, reportedly due to rampant cheating incidents.

The villagers said that students from Ghodhriyan and nearby villages such Baroda, Rojkheda, Kasuhan, Kalta, Badhana, Kuchrana Khurd and Karsindhu had to travel 12 to 15 km to reach the nearest exam centre in Chhattar village.

Therefore, village sarpanch Deepak, along with panchayat members, took up the issue with the higher authorities and managed to get their school redesignated as an examination centre.

Sarpanch Deepak said they had made a lot of efforts for this purpose, so they wanted to ensure that there were no controversies or use of unfair means again.

The panchayat members who stood guard at the entrance of the school stated that they were determined to stop any cheating at the centre. "We continue with the duty as guards to ward off any person from coming close to the school as long as the exam is under way. This is in fact an extra layer of vigilance, in addition to that by police personnel present during the exam.”

Ravinder, the superintendent of the exam centre, also commended the efforts of the village. He said, “We are getting full support from the gram panchayat, and exams are running smoothly. I assure the district administration that our Centre will remain free of cheating.”
