The Jind police have registered two cases against several activists for attempt to murder and other charges in connection with hurling stones on the police on February 13 and 14 at the Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border. Three activists have been arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Sources said those arrested had been identified as Akshay Narwal, Praveen and Virender. They were arrested under various Sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
Garhi police station, Jind, SHO Suresh Kumar said the accused had been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
The police had alleged that the accused were part of thousands of activists led by Lakha Sidhana and Abhimanyu Kohad, who arrived at Data Singh Wala border and raised pro-Khalistan slogans. The police said the accused, armed with swords, lathis, javelin and stones, started hurling stones at the police, injuring several personnel. Some vehicles were also damaged.
However, the police had not uploaded the FIRs on Harsamay portal.
Protesters instigating police, claim cops
ambala: The Haryana Police today released a video and claimed that protesters had been trying to instigate police personnel at the Shambhu border, even though farmer leaders had give an assurance of a peaceful protest.
Sharing a video, in which a large number of farm activists are seen raising slogans, the police said the protesters had been continuously trying to instigate them. The police had appealed them to cooperate in maintaining law and order.
In a press note issued in the evening, the district administration said during the day, some protesters from the Punjab side, using a barricade as shield, tried to move forward but they were pushed back by the security forces. The farmer unions were being appealed to maintain a peaceful situation, else action would be taken. As per information, tear gas shells were used to push them back.
Meanwhile, an exemptee sub-inspector (ESI), Hira Lal, who had reportedly suffered a heart attack while on duty on February 13, died yesterday.
