Karnal, January 19

Two teams of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested three persons, including a zila parishad member, a representative of a councillor from Kaithal and a clerk of the Central Income Tax and Services Division Range-22 (GST area), for allegedly accepting bribe from complainants.

A team from Panchkula arrested Vikram, a zila parishad member from ward-11, and Bharat Harsola, husband of a zila parishad member, from the Karnal road in Kaithal while accepting Rs 1 lakh from a contractor on Thursday. The money was demanded to clear his bill, the police said. The contractor approached the ACB, Panchkula, which laid a trap and arrested them red-handed.

In another case, a team from the ACB, Karnal, arrested a computer operator identified as Dinesh Kumar of the Central Income Tax and Services Division Range-22 (GST area) for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

He was demanding money to avoid suspending the GST number, said Inspector Sachin, Karnal ACB unit. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Dinesh.
