Three-day conference on Saraswati river begins

A three-day international conference on “Saraswati river — the cradle of Sanatan civilisation and culture, vision and horizon for Viksit Bharat 2047” — began at Kurukshetra University on Thursday. The conference is being organised under the aegis of the Kurukshetra University’s Saraswati Research Excellence Centre and Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board, as part of the International Saraswati Mahotsav being celebrated at Pehowa.

During the inaugural session, OSD to CM Haryana, Bharat Bhushan Bharti said the Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana (ABISY) was among the earliest voices to claim about the existence of Saraswati river.

Bharti remembered the remarkable contribution of Moropant Pingle and Dr Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar in raising awareness about the existence of Saraswati river. He further commended the work done by the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB).

“It was on the banks of this holy river that the whole world received education, culture and knowledge. Therefore India was called the Vishwaguru. The illusion of scientists and people around the world that Saraswati river never existed has also been broken. Scientists have proved on the basis of facts that Saraswati river, which is millions of years old, still exists on earth. The Department of Archaeology has also linked archaeological sites like Kunal and Rakhigarhi with holy Saraswati river in its research,” he added.

Addressing participants on the occasion Dhuman Singh Kirmach, Vice Chairman, HSHDB, highlighted achievements of the board, including completion of 400 km river stretch, connection of rivers and management of waste along with creating reservoirs and controlling floods.

Kirmach said that the Riverfront Project was being implemented in Pipli and a museum would also be built.

Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, Vice Chancellor, Kurukshetra University, said as per suggestion of Chief Minister’s OSD, the university administration would build a museum on research and development done on Saraswati River. — TNS
