During preliminary investigation, the suspects revealed that they had recently demanded extortion from a property dealer in Taraori. They were going to fire at the property dealer’s office in Taraori as part of their plan. The suspects also disclosed that Anuj, alias Banni, was involved in a land dispute in his village, for which he needed money. He received a WhatsApp call from an unknown foreign number, offering him money to cover his land dispute expenses in exchange for carrying out the shooting at the property dealer’s office. He accepted the offer.

The DSP said a police team was patrolling in the Taraori area when they got information that three youths on the Taraori-Anjanthali road were attempting to rob passersby. The police warned them to surrender, but the suspects opened fire on the cops and attempted to flee. In response, the police also fired on them, injuring one of the suspects in the leg. Before the other two could react, the police apprehended them. The injured suspect was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, Karnal, for treatment, the DSP said.

The DSP said Sagar was an accused in robbery case. He had cases registered under the Arms Act in Uttar Pradesh, while Jaideep was an accused in an assault case registered in Israna, the DSP said. The DSP said a special unit in Assandh apprehend the gangsters after a brief exchange of firing.
