Three held with 175 kg ganja
The CIA-1 unit of Ambala police arrested three drug smugglers and recovered 175 kg of ganja from them. The accused were identified as Arjun, Rajesh Kumar and Sonu, all residents of Panipat. They were produced before a court which sent them to a 10-day police remand.
Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria said, “A special drive is being run against drug peddlers in the district. Acting on a tip-off, on October 26, that the accused living in a rented accommodation at Mitthapur village were involved in drug peddling, the CIA-1 unit conducted a raid and recovered 175 kg of ganja from their possession. It was a commercial quantity and a case under the NDPS Act was registered at Saha police station. During the remand, further information regarding the source suppliers and customers will be obtained and action will be taken against them as well. We are focusing on breaking the supply chain.”
“The accused are relatives. Arjun was earlier arrested under an NDPS case and there are cases against him in Panipat, too. The market value of the recovered ganja is about Rs 35 lakh. Since January 2024, the Ambala police have arrested 150 drug peddlers in 95 cases, and recovered narcotics worth Rs 15 crore,” he added.
The Ambala SP said: “Drug abuse is a social problem and peddlers target common people. We appeal to the people of Ambala to share information regarding drug suppliers and other people involved in illegal activities at the police helpline number, for immediate action. Their identity will be kept secret and an appropriate reward will be given.”
Meanwhile, the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of the Kurukshetra Police also arrested a person and recovered 11.10 gram of heroin from him. The accused was identified as Gaurav, a resident of Shahabad.
Kurukshetra police spokesman said on October 27, the anti-narcotics cell got information regarding Gaurav, selling drugs near Markanda Bridge in Shahabad. Following the information, a team of the ANC nabbed him and recovered 11.10 grams of heroin from his possession. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Shahabad police station.
