The Panipat police have arrested three men for allegedly firing in the air to spread terror in the Bapoli area. A country-made pistol, a live cartridge and a tractor were recovered from their possession.
Inspector Phool Kumar, in charge of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, said the accused were identified as Kuldeep and Pritam of Khojkipur village and Sombir of Raimal village.
Head Constable Satyender from Bapoli Police Station said he was patrolling near Goyla Khera Chowk on October 11 when he received information that the trio had opened fire with an illegal weapon near the government school in Khojkipur Khurd village.
Acting on the tip-off, police examined CCTV footage from the area, which showed three men carrying a gandasi (a sharp-edged weapon) and other arms. One man was seen firing in the air, while another waved a gandasi.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at Bapoli Police Station under various sections of the IPC and the investigation was handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Cell.
Inspector Kumar said, “Acting on a tip-off, the police team nabbed Kuldeep and Sombir from near Sutana village bus stand, while Pritam was arrested from Chautala Road.”
During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed to the act. “Pritam disclosed that he had procured a country-made pistol from a jaggery seller in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, around six months ago,” said Kumar.
The accused were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
