Rewari, January 23
A tiger that strayed into the district from the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar (Rajasthan) four days ago, is believed to have moved to Rajasthan, on Monday evening. A joint rescue operation being conducted by officials of Haryana and Rajasthan at Bhatsana village has concluded. However, the local rescue team has been kept on high alert.
“We concluded the rescue operation in Bhatsana village, following information about the sighting of the tiger in the Budhi Bawal area of Alwar district last evening. The Rajasthan officials are now tracking the tiger in their area. Our team is still on high alert and will resume the rescue operation if the tiger is sighted here again,” Deepak Patil, Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF), Rewari, said.
Notably, the tiger had entered Rewari after attacking a person near Khushkhera village in Bhiwadi (Rajasthan) on Thursday. Acting on the information, a joint team of Rajasthan and Haryana carried out rescue operations in Nikhri, Kharkhara and Bhatsana villages in the past four days but could not trap the tiger, which was moving from one village to another.
Meanwhile, the residents of affected villages today heaved a sigh of relief following the information that the tiger had moved to Rajasthan. However, the district administration has asked them not to venture out before sunrise and after sunset.
“The exact location of the tiger is yet to be ascertained but it is being believed that he is in Rajasthan. Yet the residents need to be cautious. They should follow the standing instructions of not going to the fields between 5 pm to 7 am and inform the authorities on seeing the tiger or his pugmarks. They should not crowd or make a noise and disturb the animals by hitting stones, wood etc.,” said Rewari SDM Hoshiyar Singh.
Dinesh Yadav of Tatarpur village said several officials of the Forest Department today reached the village on getting information about the possible location of the tiger in their fields. “The team carried out a search operation for over three hours, but the cat was not found. It seemed that someone misled the officials,” he added.
