A 2.5-year-old tiger that strayed into Haryana from the Sariska Tiger Reserve in neighbouring Rajasthan state a week ago is still in the forest area near Jhabua village of the district.

A team of the Rajasthan wildlife authorities with the help of local officials are making efforts to locate the tiger but a sense of insecurity and panic prevails among residents of nearby villages. They are unable to venture out in their farms. The district authorities have sounded an alert in this respect.

“We found the movement of the tiger during monitoring on Friday morning. The big cat has also been caught in a camera. All efforts are being made to rescue the tiger at the earliest,” said a Rajasthan official.

Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Meena said since the tiger was in the forest area of Jhabua village, the precaution was necessary.

“The district administration, forest and police department are fully alert and prepared to rescue the tiger but people will also have to cooperate with the administration in this work. The Forest Division of Alwar and the Special Rescue Team of Sariska are trying their best to locate the tiger,” he said.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, under the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, has banned the gathering of more than five persons at any place in Rewari district where there are tiger’s pugmarks.

“The SDM, DSP and SHOs will ensure compliance of the orders in their area concerned. Until the tiger is rescued, they will ask people through public announcement to immediately inform the SHO concerned and the Deputy Forest Conservator Officer, Rewari, if anyone receives any information regarding the tiger,” he said.
