Tika Ram are football champs
Sonepat: Tika Ram Girls College won the three-day MDU Inter-College Mahila Football Championship by defeating VV Mahila College, Rohtak, by a solitary goal in the final. For third position, MKJ Mahila College, Rohtak, defeated Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Kharkhoda, Sonepat, 1-0. MDU’s sports director DS Dhull, Tika Ram Girls College Principal Monika Verma and CRA College Principal Narendra Khatri distributed prizes among the winners. Eight teams of various colleges took part in the tourney.
3 students awarded Rs10K each
Karnal: Three students of Gita Niketan Awasiya Vidyalaya, Kurukshetra — Garvit of Class IX and Hargun and Shubham of Class X — were given a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each for project completion and participation in next level by the Department of Science and Technology and National Innovation Foundation. The award MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) is being revamped and executed to align it with the action plan for Start-up India initiative launched by the Prime Minister. Each year, the department conducts a national programme to imbibe scientific thinking and innovative skills among young minds. These students were selected among top entries from 10 lakh entries for their project in energy generation from railway tracks, accident-free industry and accident-free bike project. Principal Narayan Singh congratulated the students.
Global initiative programme
Rohtak: The department of pharmaceutical sciences of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) will organise a global initiatives of academic network programme from December 14 to 18. Dean of faculty of pharmaceutical sciences Munish Garg said this programme would be on “Ethno pharmacology — challenges and opportunities in the face of globalisation”. Prof Michael Heinrich of the centre for pharmacognosy and phytotherapy, UCL School of Pharmacy, London, will be the resource person for this academic programme. Prof Rajbir Singh, MDU Vice Chancellor, will inaugurate it on December 14.
National painting competition
Ambala: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), under its convener Col RD Singh, organised a national painting competition on the theme ‘Gandhi at 150’. Maj Gen Anil Chowdhary, GOC of the PH&HP(I) Sub Area, was the chief guest. Sister Shaily of Dayal Bagh Brahma Kumaris Centre, was the guest of honour. It recorded participation of 150 students from 20 schools. It was an opportunity for all sections of students to display their talent in their own language. The children were happily seen drawing on their choice of heritage subjects on Gandhi. Children depicted Gandhi promoting Indian culture and heritage and the values of ‘simple living and high thinking’.
Two-day training programme
Jind: The department of education, Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, organised a training programme on cross-disability and inclusion in collaboration with the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities, Dehradun. Prof DP Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, was the keynote speaker. Vice Chancellor RB Solanki was the chief guest.
Cancer awareness event
Jind: Dr Deepak Gupta, oncologist at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, and Dr Anil Jain of Minakshi Jain Hospital, Jind, visited Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University to spread awareness on cancer. They delivered special lectures on causes and prevention of cancer. Dr Gupta said cancer was preventable and talked about modification in lifestyle and diet. Vice Chancellor RB Solanki thanked the doctors. Dean of academic affairs SK Sinha, dean of colleges Rajesh Punia and other staff members and students were present on the occasion.
