Aiming at reducing road accidents owing to poor condition of roads, seven roads of the city and outside it would be developed as model roads by the seven road engineering departments.
Authorities claim that these roads will have pedestrian walkways, crossings, streetlights, properly developed central verges and speed markers along with speed breakers as per the Indian Road Congress (IRC) specifications.
These roads are expected to be developed as model roads in a month, for which the departments will use their own budget. “The aim is to reduce road accidents and deaths. The work on the seven roads is expected to start in a month and eventually, all other roads will be developed on similar lines,” said Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Karnal.
