Ambala, June 20
The activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) kept Shambhu toll plaza free for three hours to mark their protest against Agnipath scheme in Ambala today.
On the call given by BKU (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh, the farmer union activists, led by district chief Malkeet Singh, kept the toll free from 12 pm to 3 pm.
The union activists raised slogans against BJP government and demanded rollback of the scheme.
“Earlier, the government had brought black laws against farmers and now, it has come up with wrong policies for youngsters, who aspire to join the Army,” the protesters said.
Malkeet Singh said: “We held a peaceful protest against the wrong policies of the BJP. We also appeal to the youths not to damage public property and hold only peaceful protests. If the government fails to roll back the scheme, the union will intensify the protest.”
Meanwhile, a heavy police force was deployed to maintain the law and order situation. Similarly, in Kurukshetra, farmers kept Saini Majra toll plaza and Thana toll plaza free for three hours.
The spokesperson of the Kurukshetra unit of the BKU (Charuni), Prince Waraich, said: “The union held a peaceful protest against the BJP government today.” A meeting of the union was scheduled on June 22 to decide the future course of action, he added.
