Trade outfit decries US tariff, calls on PM to take firm stand
Condemning the imposition of 25per cent tariff by United State president Donald Trump on Indian exports, the state unit of Rashtriya Jan Udhoyg Beopar Sangthan has urged the Central Government to take a firm stand against the decision and respond decisively.
Gulshan Dang, state president of the organisation, claimed that the tariff has had an adverse impact on several Indian industries, especially the textile sector.
“In Panipat, one of India’s major textile hubs, exports have reportedly dropped by 40 per cent, putting the industry under severe strain. The tariff has created a crisis not only for exporters but also for millions of artisans, workers and entrepreneurs dependent on the textile trade,” he claimed.
Dang emphasised that the Indian textile industry was a major pillar of the country’s economy, providing employment to lakhs and significantly contributing to exports. A continued decline could harm India’s global economic position.
He called on the Centre to provide tax relief, low-interest loans and other forms of support to the textile sector. He also urged the implementation of modern technologies and incentive schemes to improve production quality and competitiveness in the global market.
Appealing directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Dang stressed the urgent need for a strategic action plan. “If Prime Minister Modi claims a strong friendship with the US, then it is time to make a bold decision to protect the Indian industry,” he added
