The ongoing road construction work on Delhi-Gurugram Expressway led to the blockade of both service lanes, causing slow traffic, particularly near the Sirhaul border during peak hours on Tuesday morning and evening. Office-goers experienced traffic jams, but the traffic police eventually managed the congestion with the help of route diversions.
Commuters had to face inconvenience in old Gurugram due to filing of nominations by candidates. People were stuck in traffic jams in the surrounding areas of Civil Lines and Sadar Bazaar. The service lanes on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway will remain closed for a month due to construction by the NHAI on the Delhi side. Gurugram Traffic Police had issued an advisory directing people to use other alternative routes on Monday.
Spicejet Airlines also issued an advisory on its official twitter handle, stating, “Both service lanes are currently blocked. Heavy traffic congestion is expected on the Delhi-Gurgaon road. Dwarka Expressway and other alternate routes are recommended for smoother travel. Passengers travelling to Delhi Airport are requested to keep a tab on live traffic and allow sufficient time for the journey”.
“To ensure smooth traffic, our teams were deployed at the expressway. Traffic movement was slow but not long traffic jams were reported,” said traffic inspector Lokesh Kumar.
