Training on nutrition garden, organic grower begins in Karnal

A two-day training begins at the HTI, Karnal, by the Centre of Excellence for Horticulture Skills on Thursday.

The Centre of Excellence for Horticulture Skills in India (CEHSI) has started a two-day training programme on nutrition garden and organic grower at the HTI-Karnal with the participation of 40 members, including self-help group (SHG) and Eco Club members.

The initiative highlights the importance of nutrition gardens in ensuring food and nutrition security, promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging communities to grow chemical-free vegetables and fruits at the household and institutional level. The training includes practical demonstrations on composting, organic manure preparation, seed sowing, and pest management, helping participants gain hands-on experience in establishing and maintaining sustainable gardens.

Chief guest Vijay Setia, former president of All India Rice Exporters Association, emphasised that nutrition gardens played a vital role in combating malnutrition and fostering self-reliance through organic cultivation. He also shared that nutrition garden initiatives were being promoted in Karnal’s different schools and institutions, encouraging students and community members to adopt eco-friendly and health-focused practices.
