Transgender shot at, on ventilator

A transgender accused of murdering another in 2018 was shot at in a service lane near Rajiv Chowk here this morning.
The victim was on her way to the district courts with others when she was attacked by unidentified motorcyclists. The victim, granted bail on February 11, was in hospital in a critical condition. The victim, identified as Meenu, was shot at thrice, in the chest, back and face. Four of her associates managed to flee the spot.
Police personnel deployed around 50 metres away reached the spot and took the victim to hospital. A crime branch team visited the spot. An FIR was registered at the Shivaji Nagar police station.
“An FIR of attempt to murder has been registered. The victim is on ventilator. Teams are conducting raids to nab the accused,” said Preet Pal Singh Sangwan, ACP (Crime).
The incident took place around 10:15 am when Meenu and her four associates came from Manesar to appear in court. As they get off a bus, three assailants came on two motorcycles and two of them opened fire. The attackers were wearing helmets, one of which was left on the spot.
Investigation revealed that they were chasing Meenu from Manesar. Transgender Rajni was shot dead near the Kherki Daula toll plaza in 2018 and Meenu was among the main accused in the case. — OC
