Narwana: Trees axed by shopkeepers
Decades-old trees in front of showrooms here are being put to slow death as their branches are chopped off and poisonous chemicals poured into their roots. These trees are often axed to make way for billboards or main gates. Sometimes, shopkeepers set up temporary stalls under the trees and chop off the branches to prevent food being spoiled by bird droppings. The administration, instead of taking action against the culprits, looks the other way, which further emboldens the shopkeepers to cut trees.

Properties being defaced
In a bid to grab the public’s attention, private institutions, political parties and various organisations have been defacing public and private properties. Even the Gita Dwar in Kurukshetra has not been spared as a number of posters have been pasted on its pillars. The authorities should take action against the offenders.
