Tributes paid to Dyal Singh Majithia on Gaurav Diwas
Students and teachers of Dyal Singh College paid floral tributes to Sardar Dyal Majithia on ‘Gaurav Diwas’ to mark his 126th death anniversary on the college premises here.
Tree plantation, blood donation camp and CPR awareness programme were organised. The programme started with the lighting of a lamp. Principal Ashima Gakhar welcomed chief guest DK Raina, president, Dyal Singh College, governing body, distinguished guest Satish Soni, vice-admiral and general secretary of the governing body and all guests. This was followed by the Red Cross Cap ceremony. The students presented a bhajan to welcome the chief guest.
Gakhar remembered the contributions of Sardar Majithia. She said the college located in Karnal was an excellent co-institution of north India. The institution was created due to the generosity and philanthropic zeal of its founder Sardar Majithia. He divided his property into three trusts — Dyal Singh College Trust Society, Dyal Singh Library Trust and The Tribune Trust to fulfill his goals of spreading knowledge and information to every corner of the country.
As per the will of Sardar Majithia, Dyal Singh College Trust Society established a college in Lahore (Pakistan) and later colleges were also established in Karnal and Delhi. Today, the college established in Karnal is running on his principles and ideals.
Satish Soni, while describing the contribution of Sardar Majithia to education, said all should serve others selflessly.
96 units of blood were donated on the occasion of the tribute ceremony of Sardar Majithia.
Dyal Singh Public School, Dyal Singh Colony, Karnal, also paid homage to its founder, Sardar Majithia. An inter-school bhajan sangeet competition was organised on the school premises. SD Model Senior Secondary School, Karnal, bagged the first position, Dyal Singh Public School, Sector 7, Karnal, bagged the second position, SBS Senior Secondary School, Karnal, bagged the third position.
Meanwhile, staff members of Dyal Singh Public School paid homage by organising ‘hawan’. Principal, Shalini Narang highlighted the contribution of Sardar Majithia. As part of the tribute, the students performed ‘shabad gayan’.
