Tributes paid to Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia

Dyal Singh College, Karnal, organised a blood donation camp to pay tributes to eminent educationist, visionary thinker and social reformer Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia on his 127th death anniversary on the college premises.

The programme was jointly organised by NSS, NCC units of the college and Red Cross with participation by students and staff. Seventy-six students donated blood. A tree plantation drive was also organised.

The event commenced with floral tributes to Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia by principal Ashima Gakhar, chief guest Pampa Sen Gupta, former principal, Dyal Singh College and member, governing body, and other dignitaries.

The principal welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion. She highlighted the life and contributions of Sardar Majithia, underlining his philanthropic efforts for the cause of education, journalism and social upliftment.

She saluted his exemplary vision in establishing the institutions — Dyal Singh College Trust, The Tribune Trust and Dyal Singh Library Trust — which continue to stand as his enduring legacy.

Belonging to a royal lineage of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, he chose a path of service for the betterment of mankind.

Sardar Majithia established a college, a bank and The Tribune newspaper. His relentless efforts also contributed significantly to the establishment of Panjab University.

Bhajan gayan competition

An inter-school bhajan gayan competition was also organised at Dyal Singh School main branch to pay tribute to Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia. Many schools from city participated in the contest with great zeal and enthusiasm. SD Model Senior Secondary School, Karnal, secured the first position, Dyal Singh Public School, Sector 7, bagged the second position, Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Karnal, and Mount Litera Zee School, Karnal, stood at third spot.

Principal Sushma Devgun, headmistress Priya Kapoor, head of administrative block Ashok Sethi, all the coordinators and members of staff of the school paid floral tribute to Sardar Majithia. Sushma Devgun said he was one of the truest and noblest man with unique personality.

She also added that his public spirit, patriotic ideals and liberal and enlightened principles were like a beacon light to the people of India.

Havan performed

The campus of Dyal Singh Public School, Sector 7, reverberated with reverence and gratitude as the school family observed the death anniversary of Sardar Dayal Singh Majithia.

It was not merely a ritual, but a heartfelt homage to a great personality whose life remains an enduring source of inspiration.

The ceremony commenced with a solemn havan amid vedic chants, followed by soulful bhajans presented by the students, which filled the atmosphere with devotion and inspiration.

Teachers, officials, staff members and students paid their respects and recalled the noble contributions of this towering figure.

Principal Shalini Narang said Sardar Majithia’s life is a message to students that real success lies not only in personal achievements but also in giving back to society.
