A crime investigation branch team of the Nuh police has arrested a truck driver with 103 kg marijuana, estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh.
The accused was identified as Ayaz (alias Chaina) of Marora village, which falls under the Nagina police station in Nuh district. A criminal case under various sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Nuh Sadar police station.
The accused driver was later produced before a local court, which sent him to a three-day police remand.
A police team had set up a naka following a tip-off about Ayaz. They police were told that he was involved in smuggling of drugs and would go towards Sohna via Khedla Mod with the narcotic substance. When the police signalled him to stop the vehicle, he driver tried to run away with the truck. But the police chased and managed to arrest him.
During a search in the presence of a local magistrate, the police removed the tarpaulin cover and found five plastic sacks filled with ganja, weighing a total of 103 kg.
The police have taken him on a three-day police remand to find out about the source of ganja as well about people to whom he was going to deliver this consignment.
