The key accused, Sabbir, alias Mittar (30), was nabbed from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district. The arrest came following the interrogation of truck cleaner Ikkar, who was arrested within hours of the crime yesterday.
Ten police teams had been conducting raids since yesterday to nab the driver. “Sabbir was arrested from Pahari police station area of Bharatpur. We are on the hunt to nab their accomplices,” Nuh SP Varun Singla told The Tribune. Hailing from Pachgaon, the driver had fled to a relative’s place in Rajasthan. The police today lodged the second FIR in the case regarding the brief encounter at Tauru where Ikkar allegedly fired at the police team before being arrested. He was produced in a court, which remanded him in five-day police custody. The police have found that the truck used in the crime was registered in the name of Jamshed, Sabbir’s elder brother who had died recently.
Due to retire within three months, the DSP had signalled the truck to stop, but the driver ran him over and sped away, in a killing that sent shockwaves not only across Haryana but entire country.
