Tuberculosis camp in Yamunanagar

A tuberculosis (TB) detection camp was organised recently at Leda Khadar village of Yamunanagar district. The camp was inaugurated by Sarpanch Anil Kumar, and was held under the guidance of Dr Jitender Kumar, Senior Medical Officer, Pratap Nagar Community Health Centre (CHC).

As many as 35 persons underwent X-rays, while 21 gave sputum samples.

Dr Kumar said the objective of the camp was to identify persons who were suffering from symptoms of TB but were unable to go to the health centre.

“Cough for more than two weeks, fevers in the evening, weight loss and lack of appetite are the main symptoms of TB,” said Dr Kumar.

Under the drive, teams comprising multipurpose health workers and ASHAs went door-to-door to screen potential patients, he added.

“Persons who showed symptoms were called to the camp to be examined by the mobile team,” he said. “All these tests and treatments are completely free. If TB is confirmed in any person, his/her treatment is done free of cost by the government. Nutritional assistance of Rs 1,000 is also provided every month.”
