Two arrested for attacking journalists in Gurugram
One of the accused is out on bail in murder case of social influencer
The police have arrested two accused, including an accused in the murder of BJP leader and social media influence Sonali Phogat in Goa, in connection with an attack on journalists from a local news channel at an 'ahata' here.
The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Mandola village in Charkhi Dadri, and Gaurav Taneja, a native of Rohtak. Sukhwinder Singh, an accused in the murder of Sonali Phogat in 2022, is on bail in the case.
The attack on journalists took place on Saturday morning while they were covering a rave party, reportedly in the presence of the police. An FIR was registered at the Sector 50 police station following the complaint of Manu Mehta, a journalist with a private channel.
He stated in his complaint that he received information that a group had been holding a party in violation of rules at a cafe in Sector 49. The party began at 6 am, attracting young men and women from Delhi and the NCR. The police reportedly arrived after receiving a complaint about the illegal gathering.
“As soon as my team and I reached the spot and started video recording, the party organisers began shouting at us. Bouncers attacked us, vandalised my car and pelted us with stones. The incident was captured on camera. They threatened the cameraman and tried to stop his recording and snatch his mic. After receiving information, a police team arrived and rescued us,” he claimed.
“Earlier, on November 22, three persons, including Sonu Kumar, manager of the 'ahata', and bouncers Anand and Lalit were arrested in connection with the case. We are questioning the accused arrested today,” said a police spokesperson.
