The suspect has been identified as Balwant, a resident of Panchkula. On December 12, 2018, Anil Kumar in his complaint had alleged that Balwant knew him, used to visit his house, and asked him to send his sons to Canada.

Anil said that he has two sons (Shubham and Sahil). In December 2017, Balwant assured him that he could get visas and jobs arranged in Canada for both his sons. For that, he had sought Rs 50 lakh.

While Rs 40 lakh were given in cash, the remaining Rs 10 lakh were to be given after sending Anil’s sons to Canada. He said that Balwant assured him that he would send his sons within three months but he didn’t fulfil his commitment.

Anil alleged that he later came to know that Balwant used to dupe people in this manner. When he sought his money back, Balwant gave him three cheques on July 21, 2018 but the cheques bounced. Later, Balwant refused to return the money and threatened the complainant with dire consequences.

A case was registered under Section 420 of the IPC. During the investigation, the police came to know that Balwant had given his house on rent and was living in another colony at Panchkula.

SHO Shahabad police station Vipin Kumar said, “Balwant has been arrested and produced before a court which sent him to two-day police remand. Balwant’s wife who is also an accused in this case is yet to be arrested.”

In another case, the police have arrested a person for allegedly duping a Kurukshetra resident of Rs 4 lakh on the pretext of providing jobs in Haryana Roadways. The suspect has been identified as Mahabir, a resident of Hisar.

Balwant Singh, a resident of Kurukshetra, alleged that in 2010, Mahabir had assured him that he would arrange jobs in Haryana Roadways for his two nephews and sought Rs 6.5 lakh. But he didn’t fulfil his commitment.

Balwant said, “I kept asking him to return the money, but Mahabir used to keep making different excuses. After repeated panchayats were held, he returned Rs 2.5 lakh in two instalments and later declined to return the remaining Rs 4 lakh. He threatened to implicate us in fake rape cases.” A case was registered under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC at Thanesar Sadar police station.

SHO Thanesar police station Jagdish Chand said, “Mahabir was arrested and produced before a court where he got bail as both parties have agreed to compromise in the court.”
