Two arrested for sex-determination test in Yamunanagar
A joint team of Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts of the Health Department has nabbed two persons who allegedly got the sex-determination test of a pregnant woman (decoy customer) conducted in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The accused were identified as Jitender of Kurukshetra district and Samuel James of Chandigarh, who were arrested by the Yamunanagar police.
Dr Rishi Kumar, nodal officer of PNDT of Kurukshetra, Dr Gaurav Punia of Kaithal and Dr Vipin Gondwal of Yamunanagar district told mediapersons that the authorities of the Health Department of Kaithal district got information that some people were involved in this activity.
They, with the help of the authorities of the Health Department of Kurukshetra district, arranged the decoy customer and fixed a deal with Jitender and Samuel fort Rs 70,000.
After fixing the deal, the accused met the decoy in Kurukshetra on Saturday and took her to Saharanpur district.
The team of the Health Department started following them, but lost their trail after reaching Sarsawa town of Saharanpur district.
The authorities of Kaithal and Kurukshetra districts then took the help of the authorities of the Health Department of Yamunanagar to nab the accused.
When the car of the accused returned towards Yamunanagar from Saharanpur, the team was able to spot it.
The Yamunanagar district police were alerted and the joint team of the Health Department with the help of the police nabbed the accused near the Kalanaur police post of Yamunanagar district.
The police seized Rs 57,500 from their possession as the accused reportedly paid the rest amount to the persons who conducted the test.
The accused were handed over to the Yamunanagar district police, which produced them in court today.
The court sent Jitender to one-day police remand and Samuel to judicial custody.
On the complaint of Dr Vipin Gondwal, a case was registered against Samuel James, Jitender, Sushma, Satish and Seema at the Sadar police station, Yamunanagar, on January 4.
