Yamunanagar, August 2
A team of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested two persons in connection with the seizure of ephedrine drug material from a factory in Yamunanagar district on Monday.
The suspects have been identified as Mohammad Azam of Mumbai and Wafadar Gajnafar Hussain of Navi Mumbai (Thane). Both are chemical traders.
They were yesterday produced in the Jagadhri district courts that remanded them in judicial custody.
The authorities of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, New Delhi, reportedly received intelligence inputs from Additional Director General of DRI, Hyderabad zonal unit, on July 26 about clandestine manufacturing of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine or mephedrone at a factory situated in Radaur subdivision of Yamunanagar district.
DRI officials conducted a search at the factory and seized 661.75 kg ephedrine in wet form with heavy crystalline, worth around Rs 132.35 crore, and other raw material worth around Rs 53 lakh. The team also found that the raw material was procured using fake invoices. The factory was sealed.
