Two councillors nominated members of Finance and Contract Committee in Karnal
The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has nominated its two elected Councillors as members of the Finance and Contract Committee. Ward 1 Councillor Sudesh Rani and Ward 5 Councillor Subhash Chand were unanimously nominated as members of the committee at a special meeting of the House on Wednesday evening under Section 40 (3) of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.
Mayor Renu Bala Gupta chaired the meeting, while MC Commissioner Vaishali Sharma presided over the meeting and Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand was present there.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar proposed the nomination of two members. Ward 16 Councillor Rani proposed the name of Ward 1 Councillor Sudesh Rani, seconded by Ward 8 Councillor Sankalp Bhandari, which was unanimously approved. For the second seat, Ward 7 Councillor Joginder Sharma proposed Ward 5 Councillor Subhash Chand, seconded by Ward 20 Councillor Ram Sudhir, which was also unanimously approved.
The committee comprises the Municipal Commissioner (ex-officio) and five members —the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and two nominated councillors — with the Mayor serving as Chairperson.
Gupta expressed confidence that the committee’s formation would accelerate the execution of large-scale projects benefiting residents. She shared that at a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in Chandigarh, projects worth Rs15.30 crore were approved for Karnal. These include strengthening and beautifying eight major city roads, and beautification of 20 parks and 16 intersections. A sum of Rs 2.22 crore has been estimated by the HSVP’s horticulture wing for repair and maintenance of green belts in Sectors 6, 7, 13, and 14, with tendering to commence post-approval.
Anand encouraged the new members to work with dedication, transparency, and integrity, contributing significantly to city development. He highlighted that the committee would play a crucial role in implementing major projects, enhancing civic amenities and boosting Karnal’s growth under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
