Gurugram police have arrested two cyber fraudsters who duped people by offering mobile phones at discounted rates through fake Instagram pages. The accused were caught in Noida on Thursday, and the authorities recovered 17 mobile phones, 40 QR codes, 36 SIM cards, 3 laptops, 45 ATM cards and 45 bank chequebooks from their possession.

According to police, the accused defrauded a Manesar resident of Rs 43,00 by falsely promising to sell him an iPhone at a cheap price. An FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime Manesar police station in October last year following the complaint.

The arrested fraudsters have been identified as Anupam Banerjee, a resident of Vasundhara, Sector 5, Ghaziabad, and Ravi Aggarwal alias Amit, a resident of Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh.

ACP Cyber Priyanshu Dewan stated that during interrogation, the accused revealed their modus operandi. “The arrested accused used to operate the bank accounts where the defrauded money was deposited. They cheated people by creating fake Instagram pages and luring them with the promise of iPhones at low prices,” he said. “For this work, they were getting Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per transaction. We are questioning the accused,” he added.
