A large number of people visit Kurukshetra from across the country to take a dip in Brahma Sarovar. City residents come here for morning and evening walks every day.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Neha Singh said, “The preparations for the Yoga Day are underway. There will be a ban on taking a dip in Brahma Sarovar and strolling here on June 19 and 20. The preparations for the state-level programme will be completed without any hindrance. The entire Brahma Sarovar and Mela Ground is divided into Sectors. Around 1,000 people will perform yoga in each sector. Barricading is being done in the areas identified for sectors. We appeal to residents to not come at Brahma Sarovar for taking a walk or dip for two days.”

The DC said a control room had been established for the event. The monitoring of the entire area would be done with the help of drone cameras. The Police Department would keep a watch on the traffic movement and other activities through these cameras and the control room, the DC said.

After holding meetings with district officials, the DC said ample police force and boats would be deployed in Brahma Sarovar so that the participants don’t go near sarovar.

“Adequate number of parking spaces will be available for the people coming at the event from different districts. Kurukshetra Civil Surgeon has been directed to ensure availability of adequate ambulances and set up health desks so that immediate aid is provided to the people in case of an emergency,” the DC said.

The administration has appealed to local residents to reach the event venue on foot, as this will help in maintaining smooth flow of traffic.
