In an accident near Dhanora village in Indri block late Friday night, an SUV plunged into the Western Yamuna Canal, claiming the lives of two occupants.

The deceased have been identified as Dalbir (50) and Sandeep (37), both residents of Bhopa Sadhaura. The incident occurred around 11 pm when they were returning to their village. Upon receiving information, the police launched a search operation with the help of divers, who recovered both bodies from the canal. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem.

Eyewitnesses and residents attributed the accident to the congested bridge, lack of proper railings and poor road conditions.

“The car lost control after hitting a pothole and fell into the canal. This has happened multiple times before, but despite repeated complaints, the administration has failed to take action,” said a local villager.

The incident has sparked resentment among locals, who expressed anger over the absence of political leaders and senior officials at the accident site. “Despite similar incidents in the past, no leaders or officials have visited,” said another resident.

Inspector Vipin Kumar, SHO of Indri, confirmed the accident, stating, “Two people were traveling in an Innova from Indri towards their village when the vehicle lost balance near the Dhanora bridge and fell into the Western Yamuna Canal. We have retrieved both bodies and sent them for post-mortem.” He added that further investigation is underway.
