The neighbours said the explosion shattered windows and damaged walls in adjacent houses. Baljit Singh, a neighbour, recounted that the blast was so loud he initially feared it had occurred in his own home.

The family members had gone to sleep on Sunday night and were abruptly awakened by the explosion.

An ambulance and fire brigade reached after the blast, but local residents had already started rescuing those trapped in the debris before their arrival. Nearby houses were evacuated as a safety measure. Guhla MLA Devender Hans also arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
