Two killed, four injured in roof collapse

Two men were killed and four suffered injuries after the roof of a room they were sleeping in collapsed near Amar Vihar Colony in Shahabad on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Sandeep (26) and Kuldeep (27), residents of Uttar Pradesh. The injured were identified as Rajender, Pappu, Sunil and Raju.

The victims worked as labourers and were sleeping in a room along with other labourers when the roof collapsed. As per the information, six persons were sleeping in a room when all of a sudden the roof collapsed. It was raining in Shahabad when the incident happened.

Kallu, a labourer, said, “We were seven people in the room. It had a kutcha roof. Early in the morning, I came out of the room and all of a sudden, the roof collapsed, due to which six persons got trapped.”

Soon after, a rescue operation was launched and the people who were trapped under the debris were rushed to the CHC, Shahabad, where two victims were declared dead and other four were undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahabir Parsad and Shahabad SDM Chinar Chahal reached the CHC to meet the victims and inquired about the incident.

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena said, “Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been informed about the incident that took place due to rain. The victims will get compensation from the state government as per the state disaster response fund.”

The Kurukshetra DC said as per the report of the Revenue Department roofs of 13 houses have collapsed over the last couple of days due to rains. The areas where the roofs collapsed included Alampur, Bhainsi Majra, Jogna Khera, Khanpur Roran, Narkatari, Adhoni. The Revenue Department has been assessing the losses.

Meanwhile, some portion of an old mosque also collapsed in Shahabad due to incessant rain and the debris fell on the street. However, no injuries or causalities were reported. The resident living in the area demanded that the damaged building should be demolished by the municipal committee to avoid any untoward incident.

In the Ladwa area, some structure of an old building in Ward 14 of Ladwa also collapsed, due to which three two-wheelers got damaged. The residents living in the adjoining house had a narrow escape.

After getting information, Ladwa SDM Pankaj Setia, Chairperson Municipal Committee Ladwa Sakshi Khurana along with other officials, inspected the damaged house.
