Two miscreants held by STF units after exchange of fire in Kurukshetra village
In a joint operation, the STF Ambala and Karnal units have nabbed two miscreants after a brief exchange of fire near Pratapgarh village on Thursday night in Kurukshetra.
In the exchange of fire, both miscreants, identified as Rahul and Rajiv Sandhu, residents of Peedal village in Kaithal, suffered bullet injuries in their legs. They were taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Parkash District Civil Hospital for treatment. The STF had recovered two country-made pistols and six live cartridges from their possession.
As per the STF, the miscreants were involved in a firing incident that took place on September 12 at an immigration centre in Kurukshetra.
According to the information, the accused are habitual offenders and had been involved in cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and Arms Act.
DSP STF Ambala Aman Kumar said following an input received regarding the presence of two miscreants near Pratapgarh village on the national highway, the teams of STF Ambala and STF Karnal started a search operation. After spotting the policemen, the miscreants opened fire and tried to flee but in response and to catch them the STF units also opened fire and the miscreants suffered bullet injuries. Nearly 15 rounds were fired from both sides.
STF Ambala unit in-charge Prateek Kumar said the miscreants were undergoing treatment at the hospital, and they would be arrested after they were discharged from the hospital. Details about the involvement in other criminal cases were being obtained and further investigation was on.
“After obtaining their remand from the court, the STF will obtain information about their handlers and other associates. Two country-made pistols were recovered from their possession”, he added.
On September 12, the two miscreants had opened multiple fires at an immigration centre in Kurukshetra. However, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
The miscreants with their faces covered had reached outside the centre on a two-wheeler and opened nearly four fires, due to which the glasses of the centre were shattered. After the incident, the miscreants managed to flee from the spot. A case was registered at the Thanesar City police station.
