Two months on, Gurugram police solve murder mystery, one arrested

The Gurugram police has solved the mystery of the murder of an 18-year-old girl by arresting the accused. The body of the girl was found in the forest area near Bandhwari village on May 1.

A senior police officer said that the accused had murdered the girl because the girl wanted to marry the accused’s nephew. The accused was produced in a city court and police have taken him on a 3-day police remand.

The accused is identified as Santosh (26), a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and working in a private company in Gurugram. The team of Sikanderpur crime unit led by sub inspector Rajesh Kumar arrested the accused on Friday after over a month-long investigation.

According to the police, the body of the girl was found from the forest area near Bandhwari village on May 1. There was a noose around her neck. Police took the body in custody and sent it to the mortuary. An FIR was registered at DLF phase 1 police station.

The family identified the body as their daughter Rimjhim (18), a resident of Surat Nagar in Gurugram. A reward of Rs 20,000 had been announced by Gurugram police for the arrest of the accused and finally, police arrested the accused Santosh, who lives in Shivaji Nagar area, on Friday.

Varun Dahiya, ACP crime said that during interrogation the accused revealed that his nephew Ram and Rimjhim used to talk to each other. When the girl’s family came to know, they talked to Santosh about this. During a meeting, Santosh took the girl alone on the pretext of trying to convince her.

“It was on April 27 when Rimjhim left her house for tuitions, she went to Santosh. Santosh kept her in his room for two days. On the third day he took her to Vrindavan on the pretext of meeting his nephew Ram,” said ACP Dahiya. When the girl came to know that he was luring her on the pretext of meeting her nephew, she threatened to complain to the police. The accused told the girl that his nephew was in Bandhwari farmhouse and he brought her to Bandhwadi. He took the girl to the forest and killed her by hitting a brick on her head and strangling her with a scarf.
